A Butter-ball Drop to say Good bye
After 20 years of service to the Kingfield, Lyndale and southwest Minneapolis residents, Butter Bakery Cafe will close on December 31. As Daniel retires, so will Butter Bakery Cafe.
We want to thank Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative for working alongside us these past 13 years as our landlord. Their support, vision and commitment to the workforce training model inspired Butter Bakery Cafe to become a General Benefit Corporation and live more fully into its mission. We wish Beacon the best as it selects the next tenant of 3700 Nicollet and we hope you will welcome and support this next business with as much love as you have offered to us.
Dan and the staff also wish to extend our grateful thanks for the love and support provided by our community over these many years. A short outdoor farewell event on December 31 will include the annual dropping of our Butter-Ball at 5 pm sharp. This year it will also be an opportunity to say good bye to Butter and wish Daniel and the staff of Butter a bright future.
If you are holding Butter gift cards...do stop by and gift us with a final purchase. We'll do our best to keep up with production of all of your favorites until the end - but there may be some reductions as we run out of ingredients and product.
Want to leave a memory? We will have cards available at the cafe to leave for Dan and the staff. Please also post a favorite memory to our Facebook Page.
These past 20 years have provided our community much to be proud of. Through your ongoing support, Butter served over 100,000 biscuit sandwiches and 100,000 scones. The eclairs filled a beloved corner of our display case daily. With your investments, we helped transform a neighborhood commercial corridor and a local food economy. We were the nudge behind the roll-out of city-wide composting. We advocated for and witnessed Earned Sick and Safe Time and Paid Family and Medical Leave become available to all Minnesota workers. Over the past 13 years, we provided the opportunity for thousands of working hours for the residents of Nicollet Square, with 67 residents calling Butter a place to learn and grow, and 19 of these joining a staff that included 230 of our neighbors.
Our neighborhood is better for having invested in Butter Bakery Cafe and, with your support, will end as a beautiful story of what is possible when love is the first ingredient to whatever you make.
