Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Community Supported Bakery?

Community Supported Bakery (CSB) is a locally based investment system modeled on Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). Neighbors invest in a business at the beginning of the season in exchange for a share of a farm or bakery's product.

What's in your CSB?

Bread! Our baker will put out one beautiful loaf or a bag of rolls baked for you every week. Selections might include our multigrain or cinnamon swirl loaves, our rosemary foccacia, various rolls, and seasonal specialties.

Why is Butter offering a CSB project?

While we've enjoyed baking homemade bread for our kitchen for many years, we have limited retail capacity and this is a great way to expand our offerings.

What kinds of local ingredients do you use?

We use flours and grains from Swany Flour Mill and Whole Grain Milling, butter from Hope Creamery, milks from local dairies, and spices from Frontier Co-op in Iowa. We also look forward to putting ingredients from the farm shares our cafe receives into use for specialty breads.

How does payment work?

You'll pay on or before your first day of pick up. Payment plans are available to split the total in two payments across the season.

Can you accommodate dietary needs?

We will accommodate allergens as possible, but that may mean replacing one bread with another. All of our breads list the ingredients used for reference as needed. Sorry, we do not have a gluten-free option.

What if I’m on vacation or want to stop my pick ups?

Paying for a share is refundable up until the start date. You can transfer your share to another person and you can certainly have a friend pick up your bread if you are away. You also have the option of donating your bread during vacation weeks to the Nicollet Square Housing program that we partner with for internship training. Once the share season has begun we can not refund the share.
